Albore design is a new brand made inย Italyย that combines light design and digitalย 3Dย printing production. In fact,ย Alboreโsย team uses fused filament 3D printing technology calledย FDMย or Fused Deposition Modelling toย manufactureย its products. This is an additive process that builds objects layer by layer, reducing waste by around 90 per cent compared to traditional methods such asย CNCย and milling, which instead remove material from a block to create theย model. Furthermore, the materials used are derived fromย renewableย natural resources and are completely sustainable. The most widely used is PLA, an innovative bioplastic made fromย cornย starch.
The lamps are available in three different versions, which differ in their finishes. The Layer version is made directly with coloured filaments, without the addition ofย varnish, and this allows the texture of the 3D print to be enhanced. Theย Naturalย version differs from the other versions due to theย PLAย used, as it is composed of approximately 50 per cent wood or stone powder, obtained from waste from otherย processes. This characteristic gives the printed model a natural look and feel. And finally, the Smooth version, the most manually processed. To produce the lamps in this version, the various moulded parts are sanded byย handย and painted by a specialised partner withย UV-resistantย water-based colours.
About Albore Design
Albore design is theย brainchildย ofย Jacopo Mandarinoย andย Mirko Maletta, whose mission is to tell new design stories in a sustainable way, combining 3D printing and traditional craftsmanship.ย Bothย specialised in productย designย and began learning about 3D printing technology about six years ago during their university studies. After finishing their degrees, both of their attention shifted to the possibilities thatย 3Dย printing offered at the production level, and so they began collaborating with designers and engineers and created the first collective calledย ZM Design Lab. After launching the first product made entirely with this technology, they decided to break away and create a proper brand, it was 2023, andย Albore designย was born.
Every Albore product is made without the use of glues. This is a fundamental aspect in order to createย objectsย that are long lasting and thus truly sustainable. Theย slotsย and threads integrated within the various models not only allow forย quickerย assembly but also for easy replacement of damaged parts. Inย fact, in the event of accidental failure or breakage, only the affected part will be sent to the customer and a specialised technician will follow the user during the replacement phase.ย Moreover, one of the greatestย challengesย at the design level is to give a clear and unique language to each creation. Form and function are the two elements that intertwine in an essentialย design, capable of creating a strong physical and emotional interaction with theย user.
Collaborations, Exhibitions and Awards
Albore design also offers design and 3D printing services for companies and studios, and although it is very young as aย brand, it can already boast important collaborations with established companies such asย Terranova, an important brand in the world of fashion, andย Falstaff, a well known wine, food, travel and design magazine.ย In addition, in the past two years he has taken part in the worldโs most important design events: London Design Festival 2023,ย London, Dutch Design Week 2023,ย Eindhoven, Dubai Design Week 2023,ย Dubai, Fuorisalone Milano Design Week 2024, at Hotel Crowne Plaza,ย Milan, Salone dellโAlto Artigianato Italiano 2024, atย Venice.
In 2024, in recognition of the work done during these years of dedication and constant research, Albore received two important awards: Hotel 2024 10 under 35: the mostย innovativeย digital artisans, at theย Bolzanoย Messe trade fair.ย DIAย Design Intelligence Award 2024 Honorable Mention Award, an international design competition held inย China. Even on an editorial level, the brand was recently featured in the well-knownย Americanย Love Happens Magazine, which in an article recommended Albore design as the light design brand to follow in 2025.
